6. Troubleshooting

1. If you are installing the AccuTracking software from the Android Market on your phone, you should skip this step and start from step 2 below.

The AccuTracking version on your phone's Android Market is a "regular" version, with applicaion icon visible on the phone home screen. It can run in background and can be set auto start when the phone is power cycled. The link in 1.2) below also provides a covert version if you would like AccuTracking run stealthly (no icon, auto start, running in background). To install the covert version, you have to install from the link in 1.2), not install from Android Market.

1.1). Alternative way to install AccuTracking other than from Android Market

Before you can download any web applications from non-Adroid-Market sites, you must explicitly “allow” downloading:
1.1.1). Press HOME, then press MENU and select Settings.
1.1.2). Select Applications, then on the Application settings screen, select the Unknown Sources check box.
1.1.3). All items downloaded from the web are stored on your SD card, so be sure you have a card installed in your phone before you download from the browser.

1.2). Use your phone bar code reader to scan the following QR codes, or open the phone web browser and go to http://mobile.accutracking.com/android, then follow the screen to download and install the software.

2. Configure Cell Phone Software

2.1). Before configuring AccuTracking software, you need to first enable GPS on your phone: go to Settings > Security & Location and selecting Enable GPS Satelites.

2.2). Now start AccuTracking on the phone by touching the AccuTracking icon on the phone applicaiton screen. When running AccuTracking for the first time, the program will ask you to provide a Tracker ID. The tracker ID is obtained from the following steps:

2.3). Go to http://www.accutracking.com/signup.php to register (first month free trial. $5.99 or $7.99/month after). Then login into your account, on "Manage Units" page, choose an easy to remember nick name for your phone, click "Generate Tracker ID" button. An ID will be generated for you.

2.4). Now back to your phone. Start AccuTracking on the phone, on the settings screen, move the cursor to Tracker ID field, enter the tracker ID just generated and press the Back key.

2.5). To access the main menu, on the AccuTracking screen, press the menu key on the phone, you will see a list of menu items. To quit AccuTracking, select "Exit".

2.6). Some basic operations:
- The "Hide" button will send the application to background while still running.
- "Settings" button will bring up the option screen to set the sending interval, Smart Sending preferences (see FAQ for more details).
- "Exit" will terminate the AccuTracking application.

3. Online Tracking

3.1). With the AccuTracking application running on your phone, go to an open air place and wait a few minutes until it says 'Latitude Longitude Speed Heading Altitude' and the status line shows "Sent" with a timestamp. Your position, speed and heading data has now been sent to the server and will be sent periodically.

If you see the error message on the screen reads "Cannot connect", you don't have the right data plan from your phone carrier. See the troubleshooting section below.

3.2). Log into http://www.accutracking.com and click "Tracking". You will see the locations and history of your phone.

4. (Optional) Monitor phones from Google Earth

Please see here for how to track your phone in Google Earth.

5. (Optional) Monitor phones from Microsoft MapPoint

If you already have Microsoft MapPoint software version 2004 or later installed, you can monitor the phone locations from Microsoft MapPoint on your PC. Please download the MapPoint Add-in from your "Account > Download" page and follow the AccuTracking MapPoint Add-in Help to install and use it.
